Joy of Arts: Strum and Sing Together- An Intro To The Ukulele (with Daniel Bakan)
Strum and Sing Together- An Intro To The Ukulele for Elementary Generalists
Ukulele has been a widely used instrument in elementary education since the 1970’s when J. Chalmers Doane created a folk and jazz-based curriculum and led educators across the nation in bringing the uke to their school age children. Since that time, although less used in schools, the uke has enjoyed a cultural explosion of popularity, partly through a grassroots YouTube culture of teaching and learning. In this 90-minute workshop we will meet the uke, learn a few basic chords and strumming methods and sing and play our way through several songs and musical approaches to teaching musicality with this fun and easy instrument.
No experience is necessary. We will supply ukes, or bring your own.
Time: 10:15 to 11:45 am
