Exploring outdoors: Nature Journaling Made Easy for Elementary Art Generalists

In this skill-building workshop, participants will learn how to bring nature journaling to their students. In a friendly, welcoming, and supporting environment, participants will learn and practice easy activities and exercises, drawing fundamentals, and different low-cost art materials, and how to apply them to drawing outdoors with their students. You do not need to be an artist to bring nature journaling to your classroom or keep a nature journal!  All you need is a pencil and a sketchbook... and curiosity! We will spend time indoors and outdoors, weather permitting.

Participant supplies: Pencil, Eraser, Pencil Sharpener (required)

Time: 10:15 to 11:45 am

Bea Martin is a character animator, certified medical illustrator (CMI), nature journal educator, and Fulbright Scholar with a medical background. With curiosity and enthusiasm, her goal is to craft entertaining, inspiring, and educational stories, merging art with science in both digital and traditional media in a creative collaborative environment. She also supports the creativity and artistic development in children through nature drawing program "Budding Artists" at the Richmond Nature Park, and her website Curiosity, Creativity and Beyond (developed thanks to a Small Neighborhood Grant by Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives). You can also find a picnic table she painted, depicting 5 birds of the lower Mainland and their nests, at the park next to the Gulf Georgia Cannery National Historic Site.
